Knitting for the little one to come?      Apr 3 2009 10:09PM

Pregnancy makes every women a perfect knitter. Knitting tiny socks, sweaters and scarfs for the desperately awaited young one, seems to be a perfect pastime for the going-to-be mamas. But there have been cases when babies tender skin were known to have develop rashes and skin allergies from wool. Skin redness, itching and patches are common symptoms of wool allergies. Any comments?

yes, i am 4 months pregnant and am planning to knit socks for my baby. but i have had wierd warnings about knitting wool that babies get allergic to wool. My mom made sweaters for me, my elder sis did for her kids, and there were no cases of any allergy. still i dont want to take any kind of risk with my baby. pls suggest.

Knitting is definitely what every going-to-be-mom does with great interest. As far as allergy is concerned, u need not wry much about it as not every kid is prone to infection. It's quite rare that kids develop rashes due to wool. It is also sometimes hereditary. observe for any sign of rashes for the fisrt few days(probably a week). If everything's well, u dont have the reason to worry. Additionally, it depends on the qualit of the wool as well. opt for a superior quality wool that is light, soft and comfortable. rough and wiry wool can cause irritation to adults as well, leave apart infants. So happy knitting!
