Slide 1 : Diagnosis and Management
Slide 2 : The diagnosis of rheumatic fever according to the Jones criteria Based upon two or more major manifestations , or one major and two or more minor manifestations. Evidence of preceding streptococcal infection is also required. Diagnosis

Slide 4 : Investigations Recommended for all cases: White blood cell count Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) C-reactive protein Blood cultures (if febrile) Electrocardiogram
Slide 5 : 6. Chest x-ray 7. Echocardiogram 8. Throat swab (preferably before starting the patient on antibiotics) 9. Anti streptococcal serology: both anti-streptolysin O and anti-DNase B titres.

Slide 7 : Special tests (for alternative diagnosis) Repeated blood cultures (Endocarditis) Joint aspirate (microscopy and culture) for Septic arthritis Copper, ceruloplasmin, anti-nuclear antibody, drug screen for choreiform movements. Serology and other auto immune markers.
