2 : Eclampsia occurs in 10% of pregnancy with hypertension. Varandaeus coined the term ‘Eclampsia’ means flash of light. Defined as a new onset of grandmal seizure activity or unexplained coma during pregnancy or postpartum with signs of preeclampsia But 38% - without HT/proteinuria And HT absent in 16% . Rarely before 20wks of gestation but recently reported after 23 days postpartum
3 : Course of the convulsion : seizure last for 60-70sec, tonic – clonic type, later goes into coma. Throughout the seizure the diaphragm is fixed, breathing doesn’t occur. The first convulsion is the forerunner of others, may be one or two in mild case to even continuous – status eclampticus. Tongue bite, head trauma, broken bones, aspiration
