Slide 2 : A positive news for patients with heart troubles due to blocked arteries, their damaged vessels can be replaced with healthy new blood vessels created from liposuction fat.
Slide 3 : Liposuctioned fat is the fat removed from the fat deposits under the skin through surgical process termed as liposuction.
Slide 4 : The study has been conducted by researchers from the University of Oklahoma School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering.
Slide 5 : In the experiments performed, adult stem cells were derived from fat extracted during liposuction.
Slide 6 : Further these stem cells were grown into smooth muscle cells
Slide 7 : These smooth muscle cells are then placed onto a placental tissue derived amniotic membrane.
Slide 8 : This allows the stem cells to further multiply, which are then rolled into tiny blood vessels by the researchers.
Slide 9 : These small blood vessels grow into usable blood vessels in 3 to 4 weeks and are ready to be used in heart bypass surgeries or vessel grafts.
Slide 10 : Researchers are likely to test the usability of these engineered blood vessels in animals within 6 months.
