Slide 3 : Lack of Migraine is a painful type of headache. people who get migraines often describe the pain as pulsating (or) throbbing in one area of the head. During migraines people are very sensitive to light & sound. They may also become nauseated &vomit. Migraine is 3times more common in women than in men. It is also include Anxiety, stress, food(or)sleep Hormonal changes. INTRODUCTION:
Slide 4 : SYMPTOMS: Vision disturbances Eye pain Increased urination Sweating Zigzag lines.
Slide 5 : TYPES: Abdominal migraine Basilar artery migraine Optalmoplegic migraine With aura With out aura.
Slide 6 : DIAGNOSIS OF MIGRAINE: Migraine generally begins in childhood to early adulthood. While migraine can first occur in an individual beyond the age of fifty. Advancing age makes other types of headache more likely. TESTS: BLOOD TESTING, BRAIN SCANNING.
Slide 7 : TREATMENT: NON MEDICATION THERAPY: Therapy that does not involve medications can provide symptomatic&preventative therapy. If possible sleep is the best medicine. MEDICATION THERAPY: Individuals with occasional mild migraine headache that do not interfere with daily activities usually medicate themselves with over the counter(otc,non-prescription) pain relievers.
Slide 8 : OTC ANALGESICS: Acetaminophen(tylenol): Reduces pain&fever by acting on pain centers in the brain. Acetaminophen can cause severe liver damage in high doses &also damage the kidneys. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory Drugs: Relieve pain by reducing the inflammation that causes the pain. EX:Prednisone,prednisolon. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs.
Slide 9 : MODERATE TREATMENT: TRIPTANS: The triptans attach to serotonin receptors on the blood vessels&nerve&there by reduce inflammation&constrict the blood vesseles.This stops the headache. EX:Sumatriptan zolmitriptan. ERGOTS: Ergots include ergotamine preparations. EX:Ergomar.
Slide 10 : SIDE EFFECTS: Heart attacks Facial flushing Drowsiness Dizziness Tingling of the skin.
Slide 11 : PREVENTION: Maintain a regular sleep schedule Eat regularly Exercise
Slide 12 : CONCLUSION: Thus migraine can be treated by non-medication& medication approaches. Medication therapy includes 2 major classes of OTC analgesics: acetaminophen NSAIDS. Moderate to severe migraine headaches can be treated with triptans & ergots.
