Context for a Canadian Strategy CVD is Canada’s number one public health problem. Risk factors (unhealthy eating, inactivity), as well as obesity, diabetes and hypertension are increasing. Gaps between what we know and what we do exist in primary and secondary prevention as well as in treatment. The health care system lacks integration – access is limited with significant disparities. Health human resources are deficient. Care delivery models have been relatively stagnant. Canada lacks a surveillance system for CVD.
